Peatland-Rainforest and Blue Carbon-Mangroves Project

Indonesia has demonstrated enviable economic growth and political stability which makes it a prospective market for inward investment.  In particular, Indonesia has signaled its support for international finance to enable it to meet its NDC and has significant rainforest and biodiversity to protect.

Indonesia has put forward two different NDC targets in anticipation of COP27 – an unconditional reduction target in MtCO2e of 31.89% (from 29% at COP26), and a conditional target of 43.2% (from 41% at COP26) subject to availability of international support for finance, technology transfer reductions if foreign funding and development and capacity building assistance is available.

Forestry and land use are a major part of achieving these targets, including a stated goal of conserving up to 2,000,000 Ha of peatland.   The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry is encouraging license applications for land aimed at ecosystem restoration, particularly in respect of high conservation peatland and mangroves.

To meet these objectives, Indonesia has recently promulgated regulations aimed at facilitating the carbon market and a new national registration system
